Overview

The Business Development Manager will work as a member of Rain Bird’s Corporate Business Development Team to cultivate and execute strategic business broadening initiatives in line with the company’s strategic areas of focus. Responsibilities include analyzing new markets and potential product line acquisitions, developing relationships with potential business partners and pursuing opportunities to completion.  The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and will support the team by remaining organized and focused on numerous work streams with multiple projects.  He or she will also have experience engaging with high-level personnel across multiple companies and markets.  The candidate should also demonstrate success in establishing and maintaining critical business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and help screen a list of potential business broadening opportunities, aligned with identified strategic areas of focus.
  • Develop relationships with prospective strategic partners; lead the negotiations for assigned projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all of Rain Bird’s SBUs to assist with their growth plans that may require the Business Development Team’s support.
  • Participate as a member of cross-functional teams including finance, accounting, legal, tax, HR, engineering and marketing to evaluate business cases for investment opportunities.
  • Become the subject matter expert on assigned markets and/or product line expansions.
  • Prepare Strategic Briefs to articulate potential opportunities to key decision-makers across the company.
  • Participate in the due diligence of acquisition targets.
  • Learn to read and evaluate financial information (P&L and Balance Sheet), business capitalization tables and organization structures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 10+ years of experience in combination of corporate development, market development, sales or marketing management, and M&A.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners.
  • Financial analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment as both a leader and contributor.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work streams in a fast paced, evolving environment.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience expanding a business into new markets.
  • MBA
  • Ability to understand and analyze financial statements.
