  • Overview

    The Plant Manager has responsibility for all aspects of the manufacturing and molding operation at the Rain Bird Asia plant in Shanghai, China. This position is responsible for managing the Safety, Quality, and Supply Chain of the operation, ensuring the finance targets and customer orders are consistently met, including the fulfillment of corporate initiatives and lean manufacturing projects to improve the plant manufacturing effectiveness.


    Some of the responsibilities include the following:


    • Manage all areas of manufacturing for all product lines in the factory including safety programs, Quality metrics, personnel requirements, production standards, facilities and equipment, productivity improvements, supply chain, inventory, and schedule attainment.
    • Implement and support Lean Manufacturing techniques, 5’S, Kaizen activities, one-piece flow principles, mistake proofing PFMEA methodology to achieve company targets.
    • Provide leadership to enhance a performance-driven organization including continuous improvement of all operational metrics.
    • Execute strategic goals including: safety, quality improvement, customer satisfaction achievement, inventory accuracy, supply-chain flexibility, lead-time, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
    • Responsible for achieving inventory turns targets.
    • Lead, motivate and develop the Rain Bird Shanghai team in the practice of continuous improvement within a safe and positive work environment.
    • Implement and execute plant wide safety programs and measure factory safety standards.
    • Improve machine uptime and preventive maintenance programs for production equipment.
    • Assure compliance to company procedures, policies, and Quality requirements.
    • Maintain and continually improve the quality management system.
    • Responsible for the Profit and Loss (P&L) of the plant.



    • A proven track record of operational excellence, including utilization of manufacturing techniques and tools to improve quality and reduce costs.
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in operations management or Engineering.
    • 10-15 years production and assembly manufacturing experience, preferably in high volume industry.
    • Strong people management, technical, and communication skills.
    • Experience in operations and/or management, including demonstrated knowledge of Supply Chain Management, Lean Manufacturing, JIT, and Kanban.
    • Fluent in English language with both strong written and verbal skills.
    • Proven troubleshooting and process improvement capabilities
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and technical skills, particularly with respect to a manufacturing environment.
    • Previous Profit & Loss responsibility.
    • History of increasing responsibilities with proven track record of achieving results.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills



    • Graduate degree in business or a technical discipline
    • Experience with MRP planning and inventory management software (ERP).
    • Knowledge of plastic injection molding process preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including automation.
